I have always been drawn to birth. As a child, I proudly told the whole class I wanted to be “a doctor who takes out babies,” when I grew up. Over the years I let myself become disconnected from my calling; but after the birth of our first I felt the Lord calling me back to my purpose: to serve women in love by supporting them in their childbearing year. I am now proud to serve the women in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and those within a 40-mile radius as a doula and apprentice midwife.
My Christian faith is the center of all that I do. I believe the Lord called me to this work and when He did He laid this verse on my heart:
“To all who mourn in Israel, He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” Isaiah 61:3 NLT
The opportunity to support women in childbirth is proof to me that God gives beauty for ashes and that, no matter what, He is still GOOD. My calling is to share that good news with women and their families.
In my free time you will find me at home on our farm with my husband, Will, and our two beautiful children, Irene and Leonard.
